Manhasset PAL Adaptive Sports and Fitness Fall 2021

Manhasset PAL is pleased to announce the creation of an adaptive multisport/fitness program. Focus will be on fitness and physical activity, based on different sports/ activities, with the activity to change every 2-3 weeks.

Activities/sports in mind are:

  • agility and fitness (running techniques stretching)
  • sprinting and tag games
  • kick- ball
  • field hockey
  • lacrosse

We will use program administrators/coaches from Live Through Rec, working with student volunteers, assigned as members of  "pods" with 1-2 participants, in order to form bonds and consistency throughout the season.

The adaptive multisport/fitness program will begin on September 17 and we currently expect to conclude on December 10 with the time TBA based on enrollment numbers but somewhere in the 5:30-8:30 pm window . The program will be held at one of the fields with lights on Friday evenings at the turf fields of Manhasset High School and depending upon enrollment and interest possibly also on Saturday afternoon/early Saturday evening. As the season continues we will move into the gym and continue with indoor activities.

Ages for the scope of the program (subject to enrollment) are generally Kindergarten to 12th grade with groupings TBD. In registering your child,  there will be space for any comments you want to share and whether you are willing to be trained to volunteer.

All volunteers will go through training (first training session is September 10) with Live Through Rec and be under their guidance at all times. We currently contemplate three sessions of volunteer training during the fall season. Volunteer training will include disability awareness, safety, program objectives, best practices/strategies, and individualized support.

We want this program to be successful and welcome any comments/ideas/suggestions you may have or anything we should know specific to your child to assist us in developing a sports program in a responsive and effective manner.
